The Piccini Estate, nestled in the heart of the picturesque Chianti region in Italy, is a must-visit destination for all wine and nature lovers. Spanning over 200 hectares of rolling landscape, this vineyard perfectly illustrates the beauty and richness of the Italian winemaking tradition. Founded in 1882 by the Piccini family, it has managed to maintain its old-world charm while incorporating modern winemaking methods. You will find a beautiful Tuscan farmhouse that serves as the estate's headquarters, along with impressive vineyards each with their own characteristics depending on their location and altitude. This is where the Sangiovese vineyards, the region’s iconic grape variety, are cultivated. The clay-limestone soil, mild temperatures, and moderate rainfall provide the ideal conditions for this grape's growth, ensuring a superior quality final product. The grapes are hand-picked at the end of summer and are then carefully vinified in the estate's traditional cellars. Wines produced by the Piccini Estate are known for their complexity and balance. Fruity flavours such as cherry and plum are complemented by notes of tobacco and spices, resulting from ageing in oak barrels. The Chianti Classico is the estate's flagship wine, a rich, full-bodied but also very elegant wine that pairs wonderfully with traditional Italian dishes like pizza or tomato pasta. In addition to winemaking, the Piccini Estate also offers tastings and guided tours, allowing visitors to discover the wine production process, as well as to taste the different vintages. A visit to the estate's shop allows you to take a souvenir from this memorable experience.

Discover the grape variety: Vermentino

The vermentino grape variety was widespread in Italy, Sardinia and Corsica. Today, Vermentino is grown in the regions bordering the Mediterranean, mainly in Provence (Côtes de Provence, Bellet), Corsica (Corse Calvi), Languedoc (Côtes du Roussillon, Costières de Nîmes) and the Rhône Valley (Côtes du Luberon). Because it ripens late, Vermentino requires a warm climate for its development and can only be grown in regions with good sun exposure. Conversely, cold or temperate climates do not allow it to ripen properly. Vermentino is only susceptible to powdery mildew. When vinified on its own, Vermentino produces a single-variety dry white wine that is light and full-bodied with a pale yellow color. It can also be blended with other grape varieties such as Ugni Blanc, Cinsault and Grenache, in which case its low acidity makes it light and fresh. Vermentino belongs to the grape varieties of Ajaccio, Corsica and Corbières. The aromas released by this variety are multiple. One can detect notes of fresh apple, green almond, sweet spices, hawthorn, ripe pear and fresh pineapple.
