Cave de Tain is a winery located in the Côtes du Rhône region in France. Originally, the winery was operated by a modest owner who rented his vineyards to produce table wine. Since 1963, the Paul Jaboulet Ainé family has acquired Cave de Tain and has developed high-quality, exceptional grand crus. The family's mindset is embodied by their desire to produce wines that reflect the unique character and excellence that the region has to offer. The winery is found in Tain l'Hermitage, a small village that enjoys a warm, sunny climate, which favors grape maturation and yields overripe, complex wines. Cave de Tain has 170 hectares of vineyards on clay-limestone, schistose, and granitic soils of the county. The diverse terroirs it possesses allow it to produce a variety of high-quality grape varieties, such as Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, Mourvèdre, and Roussanne. To ensure the best possible result, the production of the wines is performed in adherence to traditional methods. The winemakers are attentive to the details and quality of each blend to guarantee a great richness and an excellent lifespan. All the wines are aged in French and American oak barrels to give them a dark color, rich tannins, a robust structure, and complex aromas. Since its establishment, Cave de Tain has asserted itself as an indispensable reference in the Côtes-du-Rhône region and continues to produce high-end quality wines that express the excellence and character of the terroir. Several international awards and recognitions demonstrate the company's know-how and professionalism, making it today one of the main wine references in the Côtes du Rhône.

Discovering the wine region of Rhone Valley

The Rhone Valley is a key wine-producing region in Southeastern France. It follows the North-south course of the Rhône for nearly 240 km, from Lyon to the Rhône delta (Bouches-du-Rhône), near the Mediterranean coast. The Length of the valley means that Rhône wines are the product of a wide variety of soil types and mesoclimates. The viticultural areas of the region cover such a distance that there is a widely accepted division between its northern and southern parts.

They are separated quite clearly by a 40 km gap between the towns of Valance and Montélimar, where vines are hardly ever grown. This division is reflected not only in the geography and preferred Grape varieties, but also in the quality and quantity of the wines produced. The smaller, more quality-oriented north focuses almost entirely on Syrah for red wines and Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne for whites, while the larger, more prolific south employs a much longer list of grape varieties. Most notable are the red varieties Grenache and Mourvèdre, which are combined with Syrah to produce the "GSM" blend so characteristic of the southern Rhône.

Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.
