The Lafage Estate, located in Languedoc-Roussillon in France, has made winemaking and wine aging a true passion. For more than 25 years, it has grown by exploiting vineyards along the Black Mountain of Hérault and other places in Languedoc-Roussillon. The Lafage family advocates for organic farming, which involves precise treatment of soils and vineyards with the contemplation of innovative biodynamic techniques. The estate produces red, white, rosé wines, and over 30 creations that reflect the best of the region. In the vineyard, there are grape varieties such as Mourvèdre, Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, and Cinsault. These varieties provide a full rotation of maturity while producing wines of great aromatic intensity. Harmonie Wine is one of the first wines produced on the estate. It is a Mediterranean wine with rich aromas of herbs and fruit. The estate's red wines are characterized by a tannic structure, a powerful color, and a persistent finish. The range of white wines is older and brings together aromas of citrus, exotic fruits, and minerality. In addition, wines crafted by the Lafage vineyard, such as Vin de Pressurage, are also available. The Vin de Pressurage is a blend of many local grape varieties, but has a strong dominance of Grenache. It is matured in bunches that are particularly slow to ripen. This wine has incredible aromatic complexity and depth. The Lafage Estate also offers a wide selection of wine-related events. Visitors can participate in tastings, wine tasting courses, and seminars. They can also participate in weaving sessions to better understand the winemaking process at the Lafage Estate. In addition to exciting tours and insightful talks, the estate also offers personalized itineraries for small groups.

Discovering the wine region of Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc (formerly Coteaux du Languedoc) is a key appellation used in the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region of southern France. It covers Dry table wines of all three colors (red, white and rosé) from the entire region, but leaves Sweet and Sparkling wines to other more specialized appellations. About 75% of all Languedoc wines are red, with the remaining 25% split roughly down the middle between whites and rosés. The appellation covers most of the Languedoc region and almost a third of all the vineyards in France.

The typical Languedoc red wine is medium-bodied and Fruity. The best examples are slightly heavier and have darker, more savoury aromas, with notes of spice, undergrowth and leather. The Grape varieties used to make them are the classic southern French ones: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, often with a touch of Carignan or Cinsaut. The white wines of the appellation are made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc, with occasional use of Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne from the Rhône Valley.
