The Fernand Engel Wine Estate is located in the heart of Alsace, France, and stretches over more than 55 hectares of vineyards. It is one of the oldest wine estates in Alsace, having been founded in 1780 by the Engel family, who were then one of the most influential families in the region. Since then, the estate has passed through several generations, and continues to produce delicious regional wines. The vineyard is surrounded by the beautiful rolling hills of the region, which provide the vines optimal sun exposure and a balanced, fertile terroir. The temperate climate of Alsace allows the wines produced at Fernand Engel's to reach their full aromatic potential and complexity. The range of wines is mainly composed of Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer, Muscat, and Riesling. The estate has one of the largest cellars in Alsace, which covers more than 10,000 square meters. The cellar is open to visitors and gives you the opportunity to explore the vineyard and familiarise yourself with the art of production and wine culture. The Fernand Engel Estate stands out for its fine, fruity and aromatic wines, which reveal a harmonious blend of floral aromas and fresh fruits. These wines are both delicate and powerful, whilst remaining balanced and without the unpleasant "mouth pricking" sensation. They are perfect for accompanying local dishes or for simply sharing a good bottle around a meal. Fernand Engel Estate also strives to integrate ecology into its practices, with a French Nature Food Charter label, which indicates that the vineyard is respectful of the environment. With traditional farming methods and modern production techniques, the Fernand Engel Estate produces quality wines that you can enjoy without guilt.

Discovering the wine region of Alsace

Alsace, located in the extreme north-east of France, is Distinguished from other French wine regions by its strong Franco-Germanic influences. These influences are the result of a back-and-forth between the German and French sovereignties over the last few centuries. They can be seen not only in the architecture and culture of Alsace, but also in the wines. Alsace wines are produced under three main appellations: Alsace and Alsace Grand Cru for still white wines (Sweet and Dry), and Crémant d'Alsace for Sparkling wines.

Almost all the wines produced in this region fall under one of these three appellations. Alsace Grand Cru wines are produced from one of the 51 privileged vineyards spread along the Length of the region. Alsace is the only French wine region to produce significant quantities of Riesling and Gewurztraminer. These two grape varieties are more commonly associated with German wines and are reminiscent of Alsace's history.
