The Sea Star Estate is a unique vineyard property located on the picturesque island of Pender in British Columbia, Canada. A pioneer in the island's wine industry, the estate spreads over Presque Isle, a magnificent stretch of land jutting into the sparkling sea. As one of the few wine regions in Canada to benefit from an oceanic microclimate, Sea Star takes advantage of its idyllic location to produce distinctively delicious wines. The vineyard embraces nearly seven hectares of fertile land, nestled between wooded hillsides and a rocky coastline caressed by the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard thrives under the generous sun of the island and benefits from the constant moisture of the sea mists, perfect conditions for grape varieties such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Ortega, and Siegerrebe. These vines are carefully maintained with a special focus on sustainability and environmental ethics. The estate employs progressive organic farming methods, including minimal use of pesticides and environmentally friendly soil management techniques. The Sea Star Estate produces an impressive range of white, red, and rosé wines. The wines are crafted in small batches to ensure strict quality control. Sea Star wines are known for their intense aromas, freshness, and refined taste that unequivocally evoke Pender Island's marine terroir. As for the tasting room, it is an ode to traditional west coast architecture, with exposed wooden beams and large windows offering panoramic views of the vineyard and the ocean.

Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.
