The Domaine Antonin Rodet is located in Burgundy, France, and is one of the oldest winemaking sites in the region. It was founded in 1885 and became the property of the Rodet family in 1952. Since then, the estate has been owned and managed by direct descendants of the founders. The estate spans over 15 hectares and is located in the southwest-facing hills of the department. The soils are composed of marl and limestone, providing a rich and mineral-rich terroir. It is a great place to produce distinctive and complex wines. The wines produced by the estate are primarily made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Gris grapes. Each year, a limited number of wines are produced and gentle and meticulous methods are used throughout the process to ensure the quality of the finished products. Their range of wines includes a large number of prestigious vintages such as Chambolle-Musigny, Pommard, Meursault, Volnay, and Nuits-Saint-Georges. The production methods respect local traditions and the wines are typical of the terroir and express the finesse of the estate. The Domaine Antonin Rodet does not systematically use the latest technology. They rather rely on traditional know-how and environmentally friendly practices. The vineyard shares its premier crus with Michelin-starred restaurants and renowned winemakers while managing to maintain its eclectic reputation and international presence. The estate is committed to growing and producing quality wines for future generations.

Discovering the wine region of Burgundy

Bourgogne is the catch-all regional appellation title of the Burgundy wine region in eastern France ("Bourgogne" is the French name for Burgundy). Burgundy has a Complex and comprehensive appellation system; counting Premier Cru and Grand Cru titles, the region has over 700 appellation titles for its wines. Thus, Burgundy wines often come from one Vineyard (or several separate vineyards) without an appellation title specific to the region, Village or even vineyard. A standard Burgundy wine may be made from grapes grown in one or more of Burgundy's 300 communes.

Unlike Burgundy's village appellations, which specialize in red or white wines or a combination of both, Burgundy covers red, white and rosé wines, and even Sparkling wines as in the case of Crémant de Bourgogne and Bourgogne Mousseux. Each Burgundy appellation may be followed by the Color of the wine (white, red or rosé), as appropriate, and if not already implied by the appellation itself. Red Burgundy is produced almost exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes and is Distinguished from White Burgundy, which is produced from white grapes (mainly Chardonnay). A key difference between Burgundy wines and those produced under the Village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru appellations is that the grape variety used in the wine can be indicated on the label.

This has contributed to the perception and marketing of Burgundy wines in foreign markets, where a Burgundy Pinot Noir or a Burgundy Chardonnay is much easier to sell. To accommodate the different styles of wine produced in Burgundy, there are six key Burgundy appellations: Burgundy itself, Burgundy Aligoté (limited to the named white grape variety with other regulations distinguishing it from the generic regional appellation), "Bourgogne Mousseux", "Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire", Bourgogne Passe-tout and Crémant de Bourgogne. There are even two appellations dedicated to the region's brandies: Eau-de-vie de Vin de Bourgogne and Eau-de-vie de Marc de Bourgogne. Some of the above appellations may be suffixed with the name of the sub-region, village or vineyard where the grapes were grown.

Discover the grape variety: Bourboulenc

Bourboulenc is mainly grown in the southern part of France. It is a white grape variety that ripens quite late. It can only be harvested around 25 September and for an average of only one month. Bourboulenc is particularly fond of low-lying, but at the same time warm and dry locations. The aroma of this grape variety is not very pronounced, but it has a certain exotic fruit and floral aroma such as broom. The result is a low alcohol wine with subtle and fleeting aromas. Blanquette, bourboulanc, bourboulenque, doucillon, clairette dorée and clairette blanche are all names that can designate bourboulenc. This grape variety is very sensitive to diseases common to all vine plants such as magnesium deficiency, mildew and oidium. Bourboulenc can be used as a table grape. Most French people keep the bunches until Christmas in order to present them on the festive table as desserts.
