The Enclos de la Croix Estate is located in the stunning winegrowing landscape of Languedoc-Roussillon, in the south of France. It is surrounded by the vineyards of the Pyrenees, and hills that are part of the most beautiful wine landscapes in the world - perfect for the winemaking of the noblest grape varieties. The estate received the AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) qualification in 2009, which contributes to its success. The Estate has a history of over two millennia. Established by a tribe of Edomites who chose each vineyard plot perfectly suited to its grape varieties, it is one of the oldest estates in Languedoc-Roussillon. It is also one of the largest, covering more than 25 hectares, with the main appellations being Corbières, Malepère, Minervois, and Faugères. The philosophy of the operation focuses on quality rather than quantity. The vines are carefully maintained by hand and without chemical herbicides. Winemaking is done in small vats and the vinework is done with respect, especially for Pinot Noir. The Enclos de la Croix estates thus produce exceptional wines, characterized by their excellent balance between strength, length, and elegance. The wines are accessible to all, particularly the table wines, which are often unrecognized: their complexity, aroma, and rustic charm will undoubtedly seduce you. In addition to the appellations mentioned, the Estate produces white wines, rosé wines, and natural sweet wine. It also offers grape varieties such as Viognier and Syrah, making its range even more varied. The Enclos de la Croix Estate is an ideal place to enjoy good wine, take in the beauty of nature and discover history. The soft, subtle, and sophisticated wines that emanate from it are the result of unique terroirs and centuries-old winemaking techniques, yet always modern.

Discovering the wine region of Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc (formerly Coteaux du Languedoc) is a key appellation used in the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region of southern France. It covers Dry table wines of all three colors (red, white and rosé) from the entire region, but leaves Sweet and Sparkling wines to other more specialized appellations. About 75% of all Languedoc wines are red, with the remaining 25% split roughly down the middle between whites and rosés. The appellation covers most of the Languedoc region and almost a third of all the vineyards in France.

The typical Languedoc red wine is medium-bodied and Fruity. The best examples are slightly heavier and have darker, more savoury aromas, with notes of spice, undergrowth and leather. The Grape varieties used to make them are the classic southern French ones: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, often with a touch of Carignan or Cinsaut. The white wines of the appellation are made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc, with occasional use of Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne from the Rhône Valley.

Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.
