Located in the heart of Maremma Toscana in Italy, the Val delle Rose Estate is a charming wine destination that represents a perfect harmony between tradition and innovation. Stretching over nearly 103 hectares of lush vineyards, the estate honors the Tuscan winemaking heritage while embracing innovative viticultural practices. The estate is nestled in a natural valley, hence its name "Val delle Rose" - The valley of roses. Even if the region of Maremma is known for its diverse agricultural lands and pristine beaches, the valley where the estate is located is particularly favourable for viticulture, with a unique blend of clay-limestone soils and a Mediterranean climate, allowing it to produce high-quality wines. The Cecchi family, owners of the Val delle Rose Estate, has perpetuated viticulture for generations. Purchasing the estate in 1996 marked a new era for the family, who invested in technology and respect for the environment to produce exceptional wines. The estate is proud of its bio-organic certification, which testifies to its commitment to sustainable viticulture. The estate distinguishes itself notably by its production of Vermentino and Morellino di Scansano, two local grape varieties that have gained international recognition thanks to their exceptional quality. These wines beautifully capture the essence of the region, with the Vermentino expressing notes of citrus and white flowers, and the Morellino di Scansano revealing rich aromas of red fruits and spices. The Val delle Rose Estate offers much more than a wine tasting experience. It's a place where visitors can immerse and connect with the history and culture of Maremma.

Discover the grape variety: Vermentino

The vermentino grape variety was widespread in Italy, Sardinia and Corsica. Today, Vermentino is grown in the regions bordering the Mediterranean, mainly in Provence (Côtes de Provence, Bellet), Corsica (Corse Calvi), Languedoc (Côtes du Roussillon, Costières de Nîmes) and the Rhône Valley (Côtes du Luberon). Because it ripens late, Vermentino requires a warm climate for its development and can only be grown in regions with good sun exposure. Conversely, cold or temperate climates do not allow it to ripen properly. Vermentino is only susceptible to powdery mildew. When vinified on its own, Vermentino produces a single-variety dry white wine that is light and full-bodied with a pale yellow color. It can also be blended with other grape varieties such as Ugni Blanc, Cinsault and Grenache, in which case its low acidity makes it light and fresh. Vermentino belongs to the grape varieties of Ajaccio, Corsica and Corbières. The aromas released by this variety are multiple. One can detect notes of fresh apple, green almond, sweet spices, hawthorn, ripe pear and fresh pineapple.

The word of the wine: Phylloxera

Aphid that came from America and ravaged European vineyards at the end of the 19th century. It lives on the roots of the vine, from which it pumps the sap. The only vines capable of resisting it had to be imported from the United States, and then grafted onto their root system the wood of traditional French grape varieties. Today, grafted vines are always planted.
