The Proprietà Sperino Estate is an exceptional vineyard located in Lessona, in the wine-growing region of Northwestern Italy, Piedmont. The estate is recognized for its persistent commitment to producing high-quality wines, reflecting the unique character of its birthplace, and for its deep respect for the environment. Founded in the 18th century, the Proprietà Sperino Estate has a rich heritage. Its founder, Felice Sperino, was a renowned lawyer who abandoned his law firm in Turin to devote himself to viticulture and the production of great wines. Since then, the estate has remained in the Sperino family, and Felice's legacy is honored by his descendants who continue to produce remarkable wines, while respecting the traditions established by their ancestor. The estate extends over 7 hectares of land, and has south-facing hills that benefit from excellent sunlight throughout the day. The soils of the Proprietà Sperino Estate are mainly composed of sand and iron, offering an ideal terroir for cultivating indigenous grape varieties such as Nebbiolo and Vespolina. The wines produced at the estate reflect the unique terroir of Lessona. They are elegant, flavorful and have considerable aging potential. The flagship wines of the estate include the Lessona DOC and the Uvaggio, two red wines with complex aromas of red fruits, spices, and flowers. The estate also produces a delicious rosé and a white wine, full of character and terroir expression. Winemaking at the Proprietà Sperino Estate is guided by natural and organic principles. The grapes are harvested manually and the wines are aged in French oak barrels to add complexity while preserving the expression of the fruit.

Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.

Discover the grape variety: Nebbiolo

A very old grape variety grown in the Italian Piedmont. It has a great resemblance with the Freisa, which also comes from the same Italian region. Among the various massal selections made in Italy, we find lampia, michet and rosé. It can be found in Italy, Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Mexico, the United States (California), Australia, etc. In France, it is practically unknown, perhaps because it is a delicate and demanding grape variety with, among other things, a fairly long phenological cycle.
