Located in the heart of Savoie, France, Domaine Philippe Grisard is a true viticultural jewel whose history and heritage merge into the spectacular mountainous landscape. Spread over about 10 hectares of vineyards, this family estate is dedicated to the production of quality wines, renowned for their freshness, finesse, and elegance. Situated at the foot of the French Alps, Domaine Philippe Grisard benefits from an exceptional terroir. The soils composed of limestone scree and silt, combined with the mountain climate, produce mineral and expressive wines. Domaine Philippe Grisard is particularly renowned for its cultivation of the Mondeuse grape, a native grape of Savoie, and also produces wines from the Rousette, Jacquère, Pinot, and Gamay grape varieties. Savoie is a wine region in eastern France, in the mountainous areas just South of Lake Geneva and on the border with Switzerland. The location and geography of the region has very much defined its Character, which is fragmented, hilly and slightly Swiss. Roussane is a white grape variety, planted on an area of more than 700 ha. Originally from Montélimar, it is also found in Savoie, Languedoc and Roussillon, and grows very well in calcareous, poor, stony soil. It prefers to be pruned short. Roussane is also called fromenteau, barbin or bergeron. The young leaves are bubbled with fine down. When adult, they become thicker. It flowers in June and matures in mid-September. Jacquère is the most widespread grape variety in Savoie. It has medium-sized bunches that are cylindrical-conical. They are compact and often winged. The berries are medium-sized and can be slightly elongated or spherical, with thick skins that turn from yellowish green to golden yellow to a slightly pinkish hue when fully ripe. The soft flesh of the fruit of this variety is tart but not very juicy. Jacquère has a budding process almost identical to that of Chasselas. With a semi-erect growth habit, this white variety is vigorous and fertile, and should be pruned short to be more productive. It thrives on clay-limestone soils as well as on stony scree. Grey rot and black rot are the main enemies of Jaquère. It can cope with oidium and mildew. This variety produces a light, pale, acidic and lively wine with a floral aroma.
