The Madonna Nera Estate, also known locally as "Tenuta Madonna Nera," is a prestigious vineyard nestled in the heart of the iconic wine region of Brunello di Montalcino in Italy. This area, renowned for producing some of the world's finest and most sought-after wines, offers an exceptional panorama of vineyards as far as the eye can see, punctuated by historic villas and majestic cypress trees. Built in 2000, the estate is relatively new to the region but quickly gained recognition for its commitment to quality and sustainability. Spanning approximately nine hectares, the estate includes a restored farmhouse, an olive grove, and vineyards planted with Sangiovese grape varieties. Here, the vines benefit from optimal sun exposure and fertile soil, yielding exceptionally high-quality grapes. At the Madonna Nera Estate, the philosophy rests on environmentally respectful viticulture. The estate is certified organic and the entire process, from cultivation to winemaking, is carried out in harmony with nature. Harvests are done by hand, to ensure respect for each grape bunch. The estate's production focuses on the Brunello di Montalcino, an intense and complex red wine that reflects the character of the local terroir. It's aged for five years, including two years in oak barrels, which gives it its characteristic tannic structure. Madonna Nera also produces a Rosso di Montalcino, a lighter, fresher wine ideal for younger consumption. The reputation of the Madonna Nera Estate continues to grow, thanks to a combination of innovation and tradition. It is managed by the owner family with a true passion for wine, each bottle they produce reflecting their love for the terroir and their commitment to excellence.

Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.
