Tenuta dell'Abate Estate is a renowned vineyard located in the charming region of Sicily, Italy. This family estate, which stretches across about 62 hectares, is nestled between the rolling and fertile hills of Sicily, boasting an exceptional panorama over the Ionian Sea. For over a century, the Abate family has been dedicated to viticulture, passing down from generation to generation, the respect and love for the land and for the art of wine. The unique environment of Tenuta dell'Abate Estate is influenced by a Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild winters, offering ideal conditions for grape cultivation. The mineral-rich soils give the grapes an exceptional concentration of flavors, which eventually translates into the wines produced here. The winemaking philosophy of the estate rests on respect for nature and on combining state-of-the-art technology with traditional methods. The Abate family believes in the authentic expression of the terroir in each bottle of wine produced. Phytosanitary treatments are minimized and only organic and biological products are used. The estate produces a varied range of wines, including rich and flavorful reds, fresh and aromatic whites, and delicate rosés, each bottle reflecting the heritage and identity of Sicily. Their grape varieties include Nero d’Avola, Catarratto, Inzolia, and Grillo, to name just a few. The wines of Tenuta dell'Abate Estate are renowned for their exceptional quality and have won several national and international awards.

Discovering the wine region of Sicily

Sicily is the Southernmost region of Italy, and the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. For over 2500 years, Sicily (Sicilia in Italian) has been an important centre of Mediterranean viticulture, although the reputation and style of its wines have changed considerably over time. The island was once best known for its Sweet muscatels (see Pantelleria), and later for its fortified Marsala. Today, many of its best-known wines are Dry table wines produced under the regional designation IGT Terre Siciliane, or Sicilia DOC (see below).

At its widest point, Sicily measures 280 kilometers (175 miles) from east to west, and about a third of that distance from North to south. Its roughly triangular shape earned the island the nickname Trinacria (the triangle) in the Middle Ages and is reflected in the triskelion (a three-pronged pattern) at the Center of the regional flag. With constant sunshine and moderate rainfall, Sicily's classic Mediterranean Climate is ideally suited to wine Grape production. The Warm, dry climate means that mould and rot are kept to a minimum, especially in well-ventilated areas that benefit from coastal breezes.
