Known for its authenticity and rustic charm, the Schiavenza Estate is located in the lush region of Langhe, in Italy. Harvesting the green rolling hills of this part of the Italian Piedmont since 1956, this family-owned winery relies on a blend of ancient traditions and modern techniques to produce wines of exceptional quality. The name Schiavenza is derived from the Piedmontese word "schiavenza", which once referred to a portion of land leased to a peasant in exchange for his services. Today, it symbolizes the estate's commitment to cultivating their vines in harmony with nature. The Schiavenza Estate operates 8 hectares of vineyards, all located exclusively in Serralunga d'Alba, one of the most renowned communes in the region for the production of Barolo. The heart of their production is centered on this noble Nebbiolo grape variety, although the estate also grows other local varieties such as Dolcetto and Barbera to round out their wine selection. The thick skin and intense aroma concentration of Nebbiolo, combined with the unique limestone soil of Serralunga, yields an extremely robust and tannic Barolo, which, after long aging, reveals incomparable complexity and elegance. The wines from the Schiavenza Estate are often described as classic examples of Barolo, characterized by notes of red and black fruits, dried flowers, leather, and tobacco. What particularly distinguishes the Schiavenza Estate is its devotion to traditional winemaking. They use large oak barrels for aging, maintain long fermentations, and limit the use of technological equipment. Their philosophy is to allow nature to take center stage and the grapes to fully express themselves.
