The Pagos del Rey Estate is an exceptional wine domain located in the autonomous region of Castilla y León, in the north-west of Spain. Founded in 2002, the estate quickly gained a reputation for its superior quality wines, particularly those from the Toro and Ribera del Duero regions. Pagos del Rey covers about 380 hectares of vineyards, located between 600 and 700 meters above sea level, in the heart of the picturesque landscapes of Castilla y León. This is a modern wine estate, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, but has not forgotten the winemaking tradition of this region that dates back to Roman times. The philosophy of Pagos del Rey is based on a deep respect for the terroir and environment. The estate practises sustainable viticulture, minimizing the use of chemicals and employing natural techniques for soil and vine management, a commitment that is clearly reflected in the quality of its wines. The estate is particularly known for its elegant and intense red wines, mainly crafted from the Tempranillo grape, the emblematic grape variety of the region. These wines have a solid tannic structure and aromas of ripe red fruits, with spicy and oak notes coming from aging in French and American oak barrels. Pagos del Rey also produces white wines from local grape varieties such as Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as refreshing rosés, with an impressive aromatic palette. The aim of the Pagos del Rey Estate is to produce the highest quality wines that faithfully express the unique terroir of this part of Spain.

Discovering the wine region of Castille-et-Léon

Located in the northern half of the Central Iberian plateau, Castilla y León is the largest of Spain's 17 administrative regions, covering about one-fifth of the country's total area. It extends about 350 kilometres (220 miles) from central Spain to the northern coast. Just as wide, it connects the Rioja wine region to the Portuguese border. Red wines reign supreme in Castilla y León, and the Tempranillo grape is undoubtedly the king.

It is known here by various synonyms, including Tinta del Pais, Tinto de Toro and Tinto Fino. It is the source of all the best wines in the region, with the exception of Bierzo, which makes good use of Mencia. The other grape varieties are the French varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The white wines of Castilla y Léon are much less numerous than the reds, but hardly less prestigious.
