The Le Mortelle estate is a prestigious wine property located in one of the most renowned winemaking regions of Italy, Tuscany. Spanning an area of 270 hectares, the estate is nestled among the verdant hills of the Maremma, not far from the medieval town of Castiglione della Pescaia. Le Mortelle takes its name from a typical Mediterranean tree, the Myrtle, which surrounds the property. Owned by the Antinori family since 1999, the estate has a rich heritage that dates back hundreds of years. Its history is rooted in winemaking tradition from the 16th century, combined with a modern ambition to innovate and perfect the quality of its wines. True to the Antinori family's environmental commitment, the Le Mortelle estate focuses on sustainable, environmentally-friendly production. The winery has been designed to integrate the surrounding landscape, being almost entirely underground to minimize its impact on the scenery. It is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for quality winemaking while respecting nature. Le Mortelle produces a variety of elegant, high-quality wines. This includes the famous "Botrosecco," a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and the "Poggio alle Nane," an elegant and complex red wine crafted from a specially selected cuvée of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot. The territory offers mineral-rich soils and a mild climate, ideal for the cultivation of vermentino, a local white grape variety, as well as international grapes. Olive trees and beehives are also present in the estate, reflecting its commitment to biodiversity.

Discovering the wine region of Tuscany

Tuscany is one of the most famous and prolific wine regions in Europe. It is best known for its Dry red wines made from Sangiovese grapes, which dominate production. These include Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The region's Vin Santo is also highly prized, as are its passito dessert wines, though these are produced in comparatively tiny quantities.

Dry whites are probably less familiar to most consumers - except perhaps Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Located in Central Italy, Tuscany borders Liguria and Emilia-Romagna to the North, Umbria and Marche to the east and Lazio to the South. Its western border is formed by the Tyrrhenian Sea. The picturesque rolling hills, medieval villages and cypress-lined avenues attract tourists and help promote the wines.
