The Jean-Marc Brocard Estate is a winemaking group located in Chablis, France. It is the product of over 1000 years of romance and French expertise. In 1995, Jean-Marc and Monique Brocard purchased the estate. The estate spreads over more than 80 hectares, offering a variety of terroirs that are perfect for the cultivation of the great white wine of Chablis and the region. In particular, this estate produces classified growths, classic regional appellations, and still and sparkling wines from grape varieties of Chablis, Hermitage, and Beaujolais. The heart of the vineyard is situated around a 14th-century village, one of the oldest in France. Here, the vineyard is dotted with nearly 327 apple trees, 136 marram grass plants, and 189 yews. From this impressive work, a unique range of products was born. The rich soils and the climate of the Seine valley allow the vines to mature progressively each year. Moreover, the estate practices sustainable methods for the preservation of the terroirs. The estate has adopted an integrated philosophy of plant and animal production, a practice of reasoned agriculture and original work, to provide wines of optimal quality. Their strengths will be visible on all products. Respect for the environment goes hand in hand with the spirit of craftsmanship and the respect of the requirement, which characterises Jean-Marc Brocard's products: 9 renowned recognized cuvées, offering rich and refined flavours in all simplicity. The passion for the wines of this estate is conveyed by their quality traditions and their expertise in ageing, terroir and work. Their know-how perpetuates the quality of the white wines that have made Chablis famous worldwide.

Discovering the wine region of Chablis

Chablis is a historic town and wine region in NorthCentralFrance. It produces light, Dry white wines, renowned for their minerality and lively Acidity. AOC Chablis wines are produced exclusively from the Chardonnay grape. The wines of Chablis are made in a rather different style from those produced elsewhere in Burgundy.

They are drier and fresher, rather than heavier and more Aromatic. Most basic Chablis is fermented and aged in stainless steel, with the use of oak barrels being more common for the top wines, although large used barrels are more likely to be used than New ones, and the wines spend less time in them than in Côte d'Or. The town and its vineyards are located a considerable distance (over 100 kilometers) northwest of the main wine regions of Burgundy, from the Côte de Nuits to the Maconnais. They are actually closer to Sancerre (Loire) and Les Riceys (southern Champagne) and to the city of Paris.

Furmint is a very old Hungarian grape variety. It arrived in France in the 1800s. The bunches of Furmint are of medium size. They are compact and cylindrical. The berries are also of medium size. They are either short elliptical or rounded. Their thick skin changes from greenish white to reddish once the fruit is mature. This grape variety is known throughout the world for being part of the composition of the Hungarian Tokaj vintage. Robust, rich in alcohol and acidity, it needs light soil and a warm, dry climate to be fertile. It must also be pruned short and its budding takes place 7 days after the Chasselas. As for its maturity, it is of the second late period. This grape variety fears grey rot and erinosis. When vinified dry, Furmint produces a very fragrant, fine and highly alcoholic white wine.
