The Clos Bagatelle Estate, situated between the towns of Montpellier and Nîmes in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, is a wine estate known for its quality wines and a variety of flavors derived from ancient and indigenous grape varieties. Founded by Henri Rougier in 1976, he expanded and even established his own vintage, using grape varieties such as Carignan and Roussanne, and now maintains more than 150 hectares of exclusively organic vineyards. The estate is set up on dry, rocky slopes with complementary landscapes and climates that produce very diverse quality wines. The soils at Clos Bagatelle, composed of gravelly loam and rolled pebbles, are very mineral, which adds to the character and quality of the wines. This terroir, both exceptionally varied, forms a vibrant mosaic of habitats (vineyards, woodlands) where vineyards are surrounded by rivers, lakes, and meadows, allowing the fauna and flora to benefit from a huge diversity of varied environments. At Clos Bagatelle, they produce six main vintages. The passion and expertise of the winegrowers are the main motivations and sources of inspiration of course. Each vintage is carefully selected according to its quality criteria so that consumers can taste a good wine. The harvest is done by hand and the grapes are carefully sorted before moving on to winemaking (red wine, white wine, rosé wine), which takes place in vats and oak barrels for fermentation, with some wines aged for a certain time in oak barrels. Finally, the Clos Bagatelle Estate regularly organizes tours and tastings so that wine lovers as well as locals can better appreciate their know-how and discover their finest wines.

Discovering the wine region of Languedoc

Languedoc (formerly Coteaux du Languedoc) is a key appellation used in the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region of southern France. It covers Dry table wines of all three colors (red, white and rosé) from the entire region, but leaves Sweet and Sparkling wines to other more specialized appellations. About 75% of all Languedoc wines are red, with the remaining 25% split roughly down the middle between whites and rosés. The appellation covers most of the Languedoc region and almost a third of all the vineyards in France.

The typical Languedoc red wine is medium-bodied and Fruity. The best examples are slightly heavier and have darker, more savoury aromas, with notes of spice, undergrowth and leather. The Grape varieties used to make them are the classic southern French ones: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, often with a touch of Carignan or Cinsaut. The white wines of the appellation are made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc, with occasional use of Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne from the Rhône Valley.
