The François Chidaine Estate is located in the Loire Valley in France, in Montlouis-sur-Loire, about 20 km east of Tours. The estate has a long and rich history dating back to the 18th century and is managed by the fourth generation of the Chidaine family of winemakers. The François Chidaine Estate specializes in the production of high-quality wines. The property operates over 90 hectares of vineyards comprising a wide variety of grape types, including the famous Chenin Blanc. The wines produced from the vineyards have multiple times been awarded international prizes. The estate is among the winemakers who adhere to biodynamic philosophy. Sustainable viticulture is practiced and organic procedures help to produce quality wines in a healthy and sustainable environment, rich in biodiversity and terroir. The soils are well cultivated, and the vines are selected to provide optimal yield while preserving the quality and character of the wines. As for the winemaking process, the estate is very meticulous, and the wine has a typical quality due to the care given to the vine and the use of almost ancient know-how to produce quality wines. The wine is matured in new oak barrels. Each grape variety is vinified separately at a precise temperature, in order to create wines whose character can be incorporated into much more complex blends. The wines of the François Chidaine Estate offer a varied range, with wines made from white and red grape varieties and tanks blending different grape varieties, each with its own character and flavor. The wines are light and fruity, with a great finish and balanced acidity. The estate produces just under 100,000 bottles per year and is very well represented in the region and worldwide.

Discovering the wine region of Loire Valley

The Loire Valley is a key wine region in western France. It follows the course of the Loire River on its Long journey through the heart of France, from the inland hills of the Auvergne to the plains of the French Atlantic coast near Nantes (Muscadet country). Important in terms of quantity and quality, the region produces large quantities (about 4 million h/l each year) of everyday wines, as well as some of France's greatest wines. Diversity is another of the region's major assets; the styles of wine produced here range from the light, tangy Muscadet to the Sweet, honeyed Bonnezeaux, the Sparkling whites of Vouvray and the juicy, Tannic reds of Chinon and Saumur.

It's quite telling that this brief overview of the region's wines doesn't even mention the Loire Valley's two most famous wines - Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume. White wines are clearly the strong point of the Loire Valley and represent the vast majority of production. A significant proportion of these are produced under PGI appellations, most commonly the IGP Loire (formerly Vin de Pays du Jardin de la France), which covers the whole region. The main white Grape varieties used for the production of white wines in the Loire Valley are Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Melon de Bourgogne and, more popular than the traditional, Chardonnay.
