Bodegas Valdemar is a prestigious winery located in the heart of Rioja, a renowned wine region in Spain. Family-owned, this estate stands out not only for the quality of its wines, but also for the passion and dedication invested in their creation. Nestled amidst vast expanses of vineyards, Bodegas Valdemar estate is an ideal blend of tradition and modernity. Its roots date back over 130 years, established by the Bujanda family who is still actively involved in the estate's management today. Over the years, they have managed to modernize their facilities while preserving their traditional knowledge, thus producing exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of Rioja. The property spans over 275 hectares of vineyards, mainly planted with native grape varieties such as Tempranillo, Graciano, and Viura, but also other international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon. The clay-limestone soils, combined with the region's temperate climate, allow the grapes to ripen perfectly, thus giving rise to intense and complex wines. The wide diversity of terroirs within the estate allows Bodegas Valdemar to produce a broad range of wines. From fresh and fruity white wines to powerful and structured red wines, each bottle expresses a unique personality. The estate is particularly recognized for its Gran Reserva wines, aged in oak barrels for at least five years, offering intense aromas and a velvety texture on the palate. Bodegas Valdemar attaches particular importance to sustainability. This is evidenced by environmentally-friendly viticulture practices, optimization of water use, and the harmonious integration of the estate into the surrounding landscape.

The word of the wine: Performance

Quantity of grapes harvested per hectare. In AOC, the average yield is limited on the proposal of the appellation syndicate, validated by the Inao. The use of high-performance plant material (especially clones) and better control of vine diseases have increased yields. This is not without consequences on the quality of the wines (dilution) and on the state of the market (too much wine). We must not over-simplify: low yields are not synonymous with quality, and it is often in years with generous harvests that we find the greatest vintages (1982 and 1986 in Bordeaux, 1996 in Champagne, 1990 and 2005 in Burgundy...).
