The Alphonse Mellot Estate is located in the town of Sancerre, France, and is one of the most flourishing vineyards at the moment. Here, it is the Mellot family who has been responsible for the production and marketing of wines for five consecutive generations, making it one of the oldest wine producers in the region. Situated on the steep hillsides of Sancerre, Alphonse Mellot produces wines that reflect the unique climate and soil surrounding them. The estate's vineyard covers 123 hectares and was built on a mix of pebble without earth or limestone and clay hillsides. These soils are what give the wines their fine, mineral character, lending a fruity taste to each sip. The grapes are grown and vinified from six grape varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Sauvignon Gris. The vineyard is cultivated with respect for the natural cycle of the seasons and with particular attention to the technological advancements that allow them to produce high-quality grapes. Modern winemaking techniques and an artistic taste inspired by the Mellot family's ancestral practices are what define Alphonse Mellot's wines. They perfectly succeed in capturing the lively substance of the terroirs around Sancerre and offer a subtle balance between finesse and persistence on the palate. At Domaine Alphonse Mellot, their wines are always fermented in the cellar to offer enthusiasts rich and complex wines that will remind them with every sip of the indelible marks left in the vineyards of Sancerre. These nuances and accents, along with the great pleasure they provide, allow one to appreciate lower-quality wines at their true value compared to those from other Sancerre producers.
