Malepere is an appellation of red and rosé wines from an area immediately Southwest of Carcassonne in the Languedoc-Rousillon wine region of southern France. The appellation was created as VDQS Côtes de la Malepere in January 1983 and was promoted to FullAOC status in 2007, under the simpler name Malepere. As with the stylistically similar Cabardes appellation (directly to the North), Malepere wines are made from an eclectic combination of Bordeaux and Languedoc grapes. Merlot is the most widely used, combined with Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Grenache, Syrah and Cinsaut.
Malepere wines come from a Warm, DryMediterraneanClimate with a relatively mild winter. They are grown on clay and limestone Rich soils - similar to those of Blanquette de Limoux, located directly south. The environment here is not typical of the Languedoc (it is more like that of south-west France), as it is divided from the rest of the region by the hills of the CentralAude administrative area. This short chain of Pyrenean foothills reaches a height of 600 metres immediately east of Carcassonne, which creates a slightly different climate.
Ribs have travelled a long way! In the Middle Ages it was indeed cultivated in the Yonne region. In Bordeaux, it was used in the production of vins clairets and was present in the Loire Valley where today it is only used in the AOC Touraine and Rosé d'Anjou. It goes by different names: Malbec in Bordeaux or Auxerrois in Cahors, in the Quercy vineyards, where it flourishes.it is a very old red grape variety with medium-sized bunches and berries with melting, juicy and sweet flesh. Very sensitive to frost, disease and temperature changes, it is very productive if preserved and if it reaches a good maturity.côt is used in the vineyards of several major appellations such as the AOC Médoc, Graves, Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Bergerac, Pécharmant, Buzet, Malepère, Marcillac... Wines made from this grape variety are fruity, tannic, deep in colour and have good ageing potential Cultivated on a surface of 5.000 hectares in France, the côt is also very present in Argentina and Chile.
red wines from the region of Malepère go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, veal or pasta such as recipes of roast beef in a crust (onions & mustard), veal roast casserole with mushrooms or tagliatelle with foie gras.
