The Rossignol-Trapet Estate is a winery located on the outskirts of Gevrey-Chambertin in the famous wine region of Burgundy in France. It extends over an area of 14 hectares and is one of the reputed producers of all the major appellations of the French wine-growing region, such as the Grands Crus Gevrey-Chambertin, the 1er Crus Mazis-Chambertin, and the 1er Crus Chambertin. Founded in 1922 by Jules Trapet, the estate was renovated by his grandsons Jean and Pierre Rossignol in 1975, who have worked hard throughout the years to build its reputation of quality and tradition. The estate is now owned by Christophe Rossignol, great-grandson of Jules Trapet, and under his direction the quality blending of the estate has become one of the key elements of the reputation of the winery. The five hundred new and old barrels that store the wine here are used for their "Bouquet" (blending), which is a mix of different grape varieties that give the wine its characteristics. The fermentation tanks are in stainless steel containers and wooden vats, the winemaking itself is very traditional. The estate specializes in long maturation, letting the wines rest for full aromas and complexity, especially the Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru softening the Tanzanian and tannic character of the grape varieties. The Rossignol-Trapet Estate produces wines known for their excellence, their finesse and their balance, and for their ability to improve over time. The wines are awarded each year with medals and special mentions. The Rossignol-Trapet Estate also produces Non-Vintage Wines (NVW) from the most beautiful properties of the estate, which is a true specialty and an integral part of the winery. The Rossignol-Trapet Estate offers visits by the owner and tasting snacks, which provide an excellent introduction to their wines and their wider tradition.
