Puechredon Castle is located in the Occitanie region, in the Gard department. Puechredon is one of the smallest municipalities in France, situated in this Cévennes foothills that resemble Tuscany. It has a town hall and less than 30 voters. At 8 km there is the medieval village of Sauve, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. The Mediterranean, Montpellier, Roman Nîmes, Avignon and its festival, Anduze and the ducal city of Uzès, the Pont du Gard and the Cévennes are all less than an hour's drive away. As are the two airports of Nîmes Alès Camargue Cévennes and Montpellier Méditerranée. Turning its back on the foothills of the Cévennes, it orientates its vineyards on semi-hillsides towards the east. It is the alternation of the Mediterranean heat of the summer days and the coolness of its nights that is the secret of the finesse of its wines. Its land is rocky, clay-limestone, and somewhat porous. We cultivate, produce, vinify and bottle all our organic wines in a spirit of sustainable development. We are heavily involved in keeping rural areas alive, preserving know-how that has a cultural dimension, and reducing the ecological impact of our activities. The grapes are harvested manually. Vinification is carried out with indigenous yeasts and without inputs. The wines are not fined and very lightly filtered when bottling. The management of SO2 is draconian, we only use it in case of extreme necessity. This technique allows the wines to fully express the potential of the terroir.

Discovering the wine region of Languedoc-Roussillon

Languedoc (formerly Coteaux du Languedoc) is a key appellation used in the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region of southern France. It covers Dry table wines of all three colors (red, white and rosé) from the entire region, but leaves Sweet and Sparkling wines to other more specialized appellations. About 75% of all Languedoc wines are red, with the remaining 25% split roughly down the middle between whites and rosés. The appellation covers most of the Languedoc region and almost a third of all the vineyards in France.

The typical Languedoc red wine is medium-bodied and Fruity. The best examples are slightly heavier and have darker, more savoury aromas, with notes of spice, undergrowth and leather. The Grape varieties used to make them are the classic southern French ones: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, often with a touch of Carignan or Cinsaut. The white wines of the appellation are made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Bourboulenc, with occasional use of Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne from the Rhône Valley.
