Located in the Douro region, in the north of Portugal, the Vieira de Sousa Estate is a viticultural gem of rare beauty and great oenological richness. For over 200 years, this family-owned estate has been producing port and table wines that are the very expression of this privileged terroir. The Vieira de Sousa Estate spans an area of 60 hectares, scattered throughout the Douro region. The vineyards are situated on shale terraces overlooking the Douro river, in a spectacular landscape designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The vineyard is composed of old vines, some more than 60 years old, which produce small yields but of high quality. The main grape varieties grown are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Franca, which are typical of the Douro region. The farm is run using organic agriculture, without the use of pesticides or herbicides, in respect of nature and biodiversity. The Vieira de Sousa Estate has distinguished itself through its commitment to perpetuating the Douro's winemaking tradition, while adopting modern winemaking techniques. The recently modernized cellar allows for individual vinifications and careful ageing, revealing the full complexity and potential of the wines from this region. In tasting, the wines of the Vieira de Sousa Estate are revealed to be rich, tannic, and tasty, with a beautiful aromatic intensity and great finesse.
