Located in the peaceful countryside of Haute Loire in France, Domaine Roger Pabiot et Fils is a family-owned estate that has been producing wines for over two centuries. The Pabiot family settled in Pontgibaud at the end of the 19th century by purchasing lands that were dedicated to agriculture. Over the years, the Domaine has expanded and the family now cultivates over 18 hectares of AOC Pouilly-Fumé, Quincy, Sancerre, and Chasselas vineyards. The vineyards are nestled in the heart of the Loire and Loire Bosquet valleys, some of which are still organically farmed, offering vintners fair cultivation conditions. The estate's products are crafted from selected grapes that are meticulously processed and vinified to produce wines of exceptional quality. Domaine Roger Pabiot et Fils produces white, red and rosé wines that are characterized by their fruity and aromatic aromas and the mineral notes their soils impart. The white wines have fruit, lemon, and floral aromas, whereas the red wines boast hints of red fruits, pepper, and licorice. The rosé wines are characterized by their clear color and fruity notes of melon, peach, and strawberry. Domaine Roger Pabiot et Fils also offers guided tours and workshops that are designed to give guests a deeper knowledge about their wines and the methods of production and tasting. Wine tastings are also provided so that guests can taste the estate's produce and discover the unparalleled taste and aroma of their wines.

Discovering the wine region of Haute Loire

Haute Loire is an unofficial name for the wine-producing communes of the Loire Valley located upstream (South and east) from Touraine. It includes two of the Loire's most famous appellations - Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume - along with a number of lesser known appellations such as Orléans, Valencay, Quincy and Côtes du Forez. The concept of a "Haute Loire" sub-region is necessary because the appellations that make it up are not grouped by an administrative or historical region; their main commonality is their proximity to the Loire River. Most other French wine regions correspond closely to an administrative region or department (e.

g. Alsace, Burgundy, Champagne, Provence). There is indeed a department of the Loire, but it is hundreds of miles upstream from the heart of the Loire Vineyard. Ironically, it is home to two of the least known appellations in the Loire Valley: Côte Roannaise and Côtes du Forez.

Like nowhere else on the Loire, these two regions specialize in red and rosé wines made from Gamay. Their style of wine and their sandy, granitic soils mean that they have more in common with Beaujolais (just 50 km to the east) than with any other Loire appellation.
