Managing and marketing such a vast portfolio of wines is not an easy task, especially in today's highly competitive wine market. The Italian government's wine classification and labeling system uses a four-level quality hierarchy of over 500 DOCG, DOC and IGT titles.

Italy is divided into 20 administrative regions (see left), all of which produce wine to some degree, and all of which contain various wine regions. The most important, in terms of quality and quantity, are Tuscany, Piedmont and Veneto.

Reduced planting density initiative approved in Champagne
The proposal reduces the mandatory density of planting from 8,000 vines per hectare to approximately 6,000. This would be accomplished by allowing 2.2 metres between rows, essentially removing every other row. Christie’s 2021 DWWA charity wine auction sets new record
A total of £72,600 was raised from 79 lots at the sixteenth DWWA wine auction hosted by Christie’s on 2 December – beating a record set in 2018. This total excludes Christie’s buyer’s premium. All proceeds will be added to funds raised by Decanter throughout the DWWA this year.
