The wine region of Plà i Llevant is located in the region of Mallorca of Iles Baléares of Spain. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Es Fangar or the Domaine Vins Miquel Gelabert produce mainly wines red, white and pink. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Plà i Llevant are Callet, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Merlot, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Plà i Llevant often reveals types of flavors of cream, tobacco or strawberries and sometimes also flavors of cherry, lemon or vanilla.
In the mouth of Plà i Llevant is a powerful with a nice balance between acidity and tannins. We currently count 18 estates and châteaux in the of Plà i Llevant, producing 115 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Plà i Llevant go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, pasta or veal.
This grape variety is native to the Balearic Islands (Spain), more precisely to the island of Mayorque, and has been cultivated for a very long time. It is said to be the result of a natural cross between the Callet Cas Concos (Negrella) and the Fogoneu, the former being in danger of extinction. Callet is hardly known in other wine-producing countries, but in France it should be interesting for the production of original rosé wines that are pleasant to drink.

The small island of Gorgona, just off the coast of Livorno, isn’t your run-of-the-mill viticultural area – its main purpose is to serve as a penal colony. Not just any prisoner can reside on Gorgona, however. Up to 90 incarcerated men live on the island at a time, alongside 17 residents and a handful of police officers.
