It spans 18 hectares of precious lands on the slopes of St-Emilion, AOC, and includes Merlot and Cabernet Franc vineyards. The Château Gombaude-Guillot has been owned by the Mélins family since 1936, and has been for several generations. This wine estate is recognized for the exceptional quality of its wines, due to its clay-limestone soils and ideal exposure to the sun, which are unique to this region. Their wine, the Château Gombaude-Guillot, is a smooth velvety, rich and silky, which is expressed by an interesting palette of notes ranging from ripe red fruits to floral incisions. Its intense garnet robe reveals a complex and subtle nose with aromas of black cherry, plum, spices and humus. In the mouth, it has a soft structure, with silky but well present tannins. This specificity is up to the excellence of this wine, which goes perfectly with foie gras, fish or even a pigeon fillet. The estate also offers a second quality wine, the Bottin des Mélins, light and with high acidity, which ideally pairs with white meats and light dishes. The products of the Château Gombaude-Guillot are available on a number of national and international markets. At the same time, they organize visits for guests, who have a unique opportunity to discover how they treat and blend their wines. Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.
