Cayuse Vineyards is an exceptional winery located in the Columbia Valley in the state of Washington, USA. The estate spans approximately 60 hectares of vineyards, planted on soils composed of rounded pebbles, similar to those of the Rhône in France. Unique in its kind, it is recognized for its biodynamic agriculture, thus confirming its commitment to a sustainable environment and the continuous improvement of the quality of its wines. This vineyard is renowned for its characterful, high-quality red wines, particularly for its Syrahs, and was the first in the Walla Walla region to plant Syrah grapes. Other grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache and Tempranillo are also cultivated and transformed into wines that reflect the unique characteristics of the Columbia Valley terroir. Cayuse Vineyards is run by winemaker Christophe Baron, a Frenchman originally from Champagne who arrived in the Columbia Valley in the early 1990s. He brought with him a passion for wine and a belief that the unique microclimate and rounded pebble soils of the region were perfectly suited for the cultivation of traditional Rhône valley grape varieties. The name "Cayuse" comes from the Cayuse Indians, who were the first inhabitants of the Walla Walla valley. The estate chose this name to honor their history and their connection with the land. Wine tasting is an elevated experience at Cayuse Vineyards, taking into account not only the flavors and aromas of the wine, but also the history and environment surrounding it. The estate is not open to the public for traditional tastings, making each visit unique and special.
