Located on the blessed lands of the Central Coast in California, Domaine Calera is a spectacular vineyard that evokes both winemaking heritage, viticultural innovation and majestically natural beauty. Established in 1975 by passionate viticulture pioneer Josh Jensen, the estate derives its name from the Spanish word "calera" which means "lime," in reference to the rich limestone deposits that characterize this specific agricultural region. Domaine Calera is renowned for its production of superior quality wines, awarded nationally and internationally. Through an earth-friendly approach and traditional wine-making techniques, Domaine Calera produces a variety of wines, including expressive, deep, and seductive pinot noirs; rich, elegant chardonnays; and rustic, savory mourvèdre wines. Spreading across approximately 85 hectares, the vineyard is primarily planted with pinot noir, complemented with smaller parcels of chardonnay, viognier, and mourvèdre. The estate is divided into several plots, the highest of which stands over 700 meters above sea level. This unique region creates a microclimatic variety where temperature and humidity fluctuations allow the grapes to mature perfectly, thus revealing the nuances and complexity that make the prestige of Domaine Calera wines. In addition to its wine operations, Domaine Calera offers visitors its own unique oenological experience. When visiting the estate, you can taste a range of wines in their picturesque tasting rooms, stroll through their vineyards and have a panoramic view of the surrounding landscapes. You can also participate in wine-related events, such as harvest dinners and guided tastings.
