The wine region of Canavese is located in the region of Piémont of Italy. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Ferrando or the Domaine Cieck produce mainly wines red, pink and sweet. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Canavese are Nebbiolo, Freisa and Cabernet-Sauvignon, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Canavese often reveals types of flavors of red fruit, citrus fruit or earth and sometimes also flavors of spices, oak or non oak.
In the mouth of Canavese is a powerful with a nice balance between acidity and tannins. We currently count 32 estates and châteaux in the of Canavese, producing 62 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Canavese go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, pasta or lamb.
Most certainly from the Italian Piedmont. It is also found in Argentina. We have noted that this variety has a great resemblance with the nebbiolo, also from the Italian Piedmont. According to genetic analyses published in Switzerland, Freisa is a descendant of Viognier and a half-sister of Rèze.
