The wine region of Encruzilhada do Sul is located in the region of Rio Grande do Sul of Brazil. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Lidio Carraro or the Domaine Atelier Tormentas produce mainly wines red, sparkling and white. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Encruzilhada do Sul are Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Pinot noir, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Encruzilhada do Sul often reveals types of flavors of pineapple, mulberry or strawberries and sometimes also flavors of raspberry, caramel or red fruit.
In the mouth of Encruzilhada do Sul is a powerful with a nice freshness. We currently count 9 estates and châteaux in the of Encruzilhada do Sul, producing 52 different wines in conventional, organic and biodynamic agriculture. The wines of Encruzilhada do Sul go well with generally quite well with dishes of beef, veal or game (deer, venison).
Most certainly Portuguese, not to be confused with the Touriga Franca also of the same origin. In Portugal, where it is widely cultivated, it is used to produce, among other things, the famous red Porto. It is also found in Uzbekistan, Australia, South Africa, Cyprus, Spain, etc... very little known in France, although it is listed in the Official Catalogue of A1 vines.
