The Vizcarra Estate is a renowned winery located in the Ribera del Duero region, in Castile and León, Spain. Straight from the expert hands of Juan Carlos Vizcarra, one of the region's most respected winemakers, this nearly 26-hectare estate produces high-quality Spanish wines. The estate is nestled between the mountains and verdant plains, offering exceptional terroir for vineyard cultivation. The temperate continental climate, with cold winters and hot summers, along with the clay and limestone-rich soil, create ideal conditions for the production of expressive and powerful red wines, like the dominant grape of the estate, the Tempranillo. The history of the Vizcarra Estate dates back to 1991 when Juan Carlos Vizcarra inherited 3 hectares of vineyards. With a focus on biodynamic and sustainable viticulture, he slowly but surely expanded his estate, refusing to compromise on quality to increase his production. Today, the estate hand harvests its grapes and practices traditional winemaking which, coupled with its ideal climate and soil, produces distinctive wines of character and complexity. Wines from the Vizcarra Estate are particularly appreciated for their maturity and concentration of flavors. The aromas of black fruits, spices, and oak blend harmoniously with the roundness and well-structured tannins, offering a wonderfully balanced tasting experience. What also sets the Vizcarra Estate apart is their philosophy of respecting the earth. They work in symbiosis with nature, without excessive intervention, allowing the vine to develop in harmony with its natural environment.

Discovering the wine region of Castille-et-Léon

Located in the northern half of the Central Iberian plateau, Castilla y León is the largest of Spain's 17 administrative regions, covering about one-fifth of the country's total area. It extends about 350 kilometres (220 miles) from central Spain to the northern coast. Just as wide, it connects the Rioja wine region to the Portuguese border. Red wines reign supreme in Castilla y León, and the Tempranillo grape is undoubtedly the king.

It is known here by various synonyms, including Tinta del Pais, Tinto de Toro and Tinto Fino. It is the source of all the best wines in the region, with the exception of Bierzo, which makes good use of Mencia. The other grape varieties are the French varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The white wines of Castilla y Léon are much less numerous than the reds, but hardly less prestigious.
