A dual purpose grape variety (table and vat) obtained in Argentina by Angel Antonio Gargiulo by crossing the Emperor and the Perlette. It can also be found in Spain, Italy, Venezuela, etc. It should not be confused with perlona, which is a white grape variety of Italian origin. The crossing between the (ohanès x cardinal) and the Perlon (father) made it possible to obtain the big perlon, black table grape.

The Elqui Valley wine region is located 400 kilometers (250mi) North of the Chilean capital, Central-valley/maipo-valley/santiago">Santiago, at the very southern edge of the Atacama Desert. Its latitude of 29° makes it Chile's northernmost wine region, for now at least; the country's determined wine pioneers are now setting their sights as far north as the Atacama. Aphid that came from America and ravaged European vineyards at the end of the 19th century. It lives on the roots of the vine, from which it pumps the sap. The only vines capable of resisting it had to be imported from the United States, and then grafted onto their root system the wood of traditional French grape varieties. Today, grafted vines are always planted.
