Discover the grape variety: Ciliegiolo

Supple and moreish reds with a deep ruby colour, melted tannins and a round palate, on intense aromas of ripe red cherry (hence its name, ciliegio = cherry tree), raspberry, plum, violet and sweet spices. Fresh acidity, best drunk young or for short ageing. Vinified as a single variety in Maremma Toscana DOC, Lazio and Umbria, and blended with Sangiovese (of which it may be the genetic parent). Native Tuscan Italian variety.

The wine region of Colli Perugini

Umbrian DOC (1981) south-west of Perugia (Deruta, Marsciano, Piegaro), argilo-calcareous hills between the Tiber and Lake Trasimeno. Sangiovese (≥50%) as the signature red — balanced with bright cherry, plum, violet and a spiced-balsamic touch, firm tannins. Trebbiano Toscano and Grechetto as fresh signature whites with white flowers, citrus and a mineral touch. Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay as single-variety wines.

The wine region of Umbria

"Green heart" of Italy, cradle of Sagrantino: exceptional tannic red in Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG, dense and concentrated with notes of blackberry, candied plum, liquorice, spice and leather, powerful tannins and long ageing. Suppler Sangiovese in blends, Cabernet and Merlot in Torgiano DOCG. Orvieto whites based on Grechetto and Trebbiano, full and almondy, from dry to sweet Muffato. ~13,000 ha between Tuscany and Lazio.

The word of the wine: Crunchy

A very colorful term to designate a sensation similar to the crunchiness of a grape bursting under the tooth in young and lively wines.
