The Domaine G. Descombes is a family-owned vineyard established in Morgon, France. The property was founded in the early 1980s by Georges Descombes. He was deeply devoted to the local winemaking tradition and the artisanal production of top-quality wines. Over the years, his passion was the bond that allowed his family to carry on his culture product. Today, the Descombes family continues to produce wines that pay tribute to Georges' initial values- quality production achieved step by step thanks to careful attention and craft know-how. The property spreads across some 35 hectares mainly planted with Gamay and Moulin-à-Vent, and the vineyards are cultivated following the principles of organic farming, without any of the chemical products or fertilizers that limit soil biodiversity and complexity. Domaine G. Descombes produces a wide range of wines, including gastronomic sparkling wines, elegant red wines, and light, delicate white wines capable of aging. The range of wines includes grape varieties from local terroirs, respecting native varieties, as well as blends of exotic varieties across the vineyard. Among the exceptional wines, the Morgon Côte du Py is one of the estate's great wines, a bold and flavorful red that combines strength and finesse. Domaine G. Descombes also offers on-site wine tastings, which are an excellent way to get a close look at the preparation and production of their products. They also offer guided tours of the vineyards to immerse yourself in the history and practices of the vineyard. This family estate is entirely devoted to enhancing the identity and quality of their products. Their wines are not only a tribute to the land and its winemaking tradition but also to their vision of extending their roots through the creation of inviting and unique wines.

Discovering the wine region of Morgon

Morgon is one of the ten Beaujolais crus located on the slopes of the Beaujolais hills, on the west bank of the Saône. The appellation applies only to red wines made from the Gamay Grape. Some white grapes are allowed in the Final blend: Chardonnay, Aligoté and Melon de Bourgogne. Although there are no officially defined quantities for these varieties, Morgon's blend is controlled by limiting the proportion of these varieties that are allowed in the Vineyard to a maximum of 15%.

The wines produced here tend to be denser than those produced in most other regions of Beaujolais. They often have cherry and black fruit characters and a Fleshy, juicy Texture that is not common in Beaujolais wines. Morgon wines age so distinctly and consistently that the name of the region is often used as a verb to describe this: "il morgonne" ("it morgons"). As with most other Beaujolais crus, the wines are generally made using the traditional method of semi-carbonic Maceration known as "macération traditionelle".
