The Château de Ricaud is located in the village of Cadillac in the Côtes de Bordeaux region of France. Originally built in 1845, this winery is surrounded by Bordeaux's legendary serenity. It is also surrounded by 25 hectares of vineyards on a base of gravelly soil and sands, benefiting from warm summer days and mild autumn nights. The vines produce mid-range flint schist, as well as gravels and sands. The Château de Ricaud is famed for its two varieties of vines, White Blend and Red Blend. The vines grow on sandy-gravelly and pebbly soils that, coupled with the maritime climate, provide the perfect terroir for the wines. The grand red wines are aged only in new barrels for the most expensive, and in barrels between 18 and 24 months for the others, and their blends consist of Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Merlot (10%), Malbec (20%) and Cabernet Franc (15%). The white wines are assembled in two-year barrels with a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (25%), Sémillon (25%) and Muscadelle (50%). Château de Ricaud also produces older wines, such as its Second Wine known for its rich and fleshy structure and complexity, and a white wine from a particular vintage. Château de Ricaud offers visitors a range of possibilities, from educational tours of the vineyard to tastings and stays with the winegrower.
