The Bressia Domain is a coveted vineyard located in the province of Mendoza in Argentina, known as one of the most significant wine producers in the region. Walter Bressia, the renowned owner and winemaker of the domain, founded the property in 2003 with the ambition to combine his love for viticulture and his passion for creating exceptional quality wines. Situated at the foot of the majestic Andes mountain range, the Bressia domain extends over an area of about 20 hectares. The climatic conditions of this region, combined with the deep alluvial soils, create an optimal environment for vineyard cultivation. The vines benefit from generous sunshine and cool nights that allow for a balanced and progressive maturation. This contrast between daytime and nighttime temperatures helps maintain natural acidity in the grapes, resulting in wines with intense and authentic flavors. The Bressia Domain stands out particularly for its exclusive oenological practices. All wines are produced in small quantities to guarantee absolute control over quality. Harvesting is done manually, with a rigorous selection of grapes, favoring the expression of the Argentinian terroir in every bottle. The domain's state-of-the-art cellar facilitates the production of superior quality wines while respecting the integrity of the fruits. The range of wines from the Bressia Domain is varied, with an emphasis on the classic grape varieties of the region such as Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, not forgetting white grape varieties such as Chardonnay. The cellar also offers wines from non-traditional grape varieties like Viognier, thus reflecting its commitment to innovate while respecting the viticultural heritage of the region.

Discovering the wine region of Mendoza

Mendoza is by far the largest wine region in Argentina. Located on a high-altitude plateau at the edge of the Andes Mountains, the province is responsible for roughly 70 percent of the country's annual wine production. The French Grape variety Malbec has its New World home in the vineyards of Mendoza, producing red wines of great concentration and intensity. The province Lies on the western edge of Argentina, across the Andes Mountains from Chile.

While the province is large (it covers a similar area to the state of New York), its viticultural land is clustered mainly in the northern Part, just South of Mendoza City. Here, the regions of Lujan de Cuyo, Maipu and the Uco Valley are home to some of the biggest names in Argentinian wine. Mendoza's winemaking history is nearly as Old as the colonial history of Argentina itself. The first vines were planted by priests of the Catholic Church's Jesuit order in the mid-16th Century, borrowing agricultural techniques from the Incas and Huarpes, who had occupied the land before them.

Malbec was introduced around this time by a French agronomist, Miguel Aimé Pouget. In the 1800s, Spanish and Italian immigrants flooded into Mendoza to escape the ravages of the Phylloxera louse that was devastating vineyards in Europe at the time. A boom in wine production came in 1885, when a railway line was completed between Mendoza and the country's capital city, Buenos Aires, providing a cheaper, easier way of sending wines out of the region. For most of the 20th Century, the Argentinean wine industry focused almost entirely on the domestic market, and it is only in the past 25 years that a push toward quality has led to the wines of Mendoza gracing restaurant lists the world over.

Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.
