Discover the grape variety: Peloursin

Peloursin is an ancient grape variety from the Grésivaudant Valley in Isère. Its bunches are of medium size. They are conical-cylindrical, compact and winged. The berries are rather large and covered with a thin bluish-black or rarely grey skin. The peloursin is now endangered. It only occupies half a hectare and is almost never propagated. This variety buds late. The grapes can be picked from the twentieth day after the chasselas harvest. Peloursin's bearing is somewhat sloping. This variety is very vigorous and can become very productive over the years as its stocks become larger and larger. However, it must be protected from black rot and grey rot, which it is particularly afraid of. The wine produced from Peloursin has a fairly good colour, astringent but still ordinary.

Cornas & St-Péray 2021: report and top-scoring wines

This was the first year that Pierre Clape, of Domaine Clape, had witnessed frost on the slopes of Cornas; from these parcels he lost 40% of his crop. On the flat, however, it was much worse – here he lost 90%. Like almost everybody else, he had to raise alcohol levels – here by adding concentrated must – to achieve 12% alcohol. The last time they had to do this was in 2008. Scroll down to see tasting notes and scores for top-scoring Cornas & St-Péray 2021 wines See all 400 Rhône 2021 tasting ...

The largest-ever year for entries, an incredible 18,244 wines were judged at the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards – with just 163 wines awarded a Platinum medal. ‘Winning a Platinum medal is something really exceptional’ said Decanter World Wine Awards Co-Chair Sarah Jane Evans MW. ‘Platinum is like the stratospheric level’ she commented, ‘so it’s really saying to the winemaker: this is a great wine.’ Making up just 0.87% of the total wines tasted at the 2022 c ...

Walls: Domaine Alain Voge’s evolution in 10 wines

Some Cornas estates, like Domaine Clape, feel as ancient and unchanging as the granite hills themselves. Others, like Domaine Alain Voge, go through periods of flux. When this is due to vineyards being ripped out, bought or sold, then the whole profile of an estate can be altered. That’s not the case at Voge. Instead, it’s due to the coming and going of people and the unavoidable change that entails. I visited Lionel Fraisse, the current managing director at Domaine Alain Voge, to taste a select ...
