The Maloof Estate is located in the picturesque state of Oregon, in the United States. This small family vineyard is run by two dreamers in love with the land, Megan and Ross Maloof. Their mission is to create artisanal, authentic wines that accurately reflect the terroir from which they come. They settled in the illustrious winemaking region of Willamette Valley, internationally recognized for its cool climate ideal for Pinot Noir, but whose volcanic soil and microclimate greatly vary from one plot to another, offering vintners an unparalleled palette of expression. The Maloofs own over 6 hectares of vines, cultivated with the utmost respect for nature, using biodynamic practices aimed at preserving and enriching the soil while respecting natural cycles. Their environmentally friendly approach is not limited to the vineyard, it is also reflected in the cellar where they vinify by minimizing inputs, so that the wine is as natural and sincere as possible. The cultivated grape varieties include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling, all of which are transformed into different wines, each having a unique characteristic. When visiting the Maloof Estate, one discovers a hilly landscape of lush vineyards, bathed in summer sun. The air is fresh, cool, and fragrant with the bewitching scent of ripe grapes. The tasting room, a charming little warm and welcoming wooden building, offers breathtaking views of the estate. Visitors are invited to taste a variety of these artisanal wines, while learning more about the natural winemaking process and the history of this family estate. The Maloof Estate is a hidden gem in Oregon's wine crown.

Discovering the wine region of Oregon

Oregon, located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States, is one of the youngest and most promising wine regions in the world. The state put itself on the international wine map in the late 1960s and has been building its position ever since. Production volumes have remained relatively quiet. The 2017 Oregon Vineyards and Wineries report recorded just under 34,000 acres (13,750 hectares) of planted vineyards.

California has more than ten times as much vineyard acreage as Oregon. Yet in the early 21st century, Oregon is considered a world-class wine region, especially for its Pinot noir. The classic Oregon Pinot has a Deepcherry red Color. It offers aromas of black cherries, stewed strawberries and an earthy edge.

Discover the grape variety: Pinot gris

Pinot Gris is a grey grape variety mutated from Pinot Noir. It has its origins in Burgundy, where it is called pinot-beurot in reference to the colour of the grey robes worn by the monks of the region. Established in Alsace since the 17th century, pinot gris was called tokay until 2007. It is made up of bunches of small berries that vary in colour from pink to blue-grey. It is particularly well suited to the continental climate because it is resistant to the cold in winter and to spring frosts. This variety also likes dry limestone soils with plenty of sunshine in the summer. Pinot Gris is well suited to late harvesting or to the selection of noble grapes, depending on the year and the concentration of sugars in the berries. Pinot Gris wines are distinguished by their aromatic complexity of white fruits, mushrooms, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, etc., and their great finesse. In the Loire Valley, pinot gris is used in the Coteaux-d'Ancenis appellations. It gives dry or sweet wines with pear and peach aromas.
