Château La Conseillante is a family-owned winery situated in Pomerol since 1803. It is located on the Dordogne, close to Pomerol and St-Emilion and many other Bordeaux vineyards. La Conseillante extends over approximately 10 hectares, with part of the land situated atop a small hill, providing the vines with excellent sun exposure and fast drainage. La Conseillante produces red wines from Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and a bit of Cabernet Sauvignon. Each vine plot is carefully maintained and selected according to their soil and exposure, their characteristics, and their seasonal variations. La Conseillante produces rich and profound wines. The wines have a beautiful intense violet color, rich ripe fruits, very regular tannins, and a nice acidity. Their distinct characteristics arise from the combination of the three grape varieties with the exceptional terroirs and their old vines. The wines are gently raised in French oak barrels, and starting from 2010, only new or half-new oak barrels are used to age the wines. The vines of Château La Conseillante are treated with the utmost care using environmentally friendly techniques aiming to produce wines of exceptional quality and complexity. La Conseillante is a prestigious property globally recognized. The wines of the estate are regularly mentioned in guides and have even won many awards.

Discover the grape variety: Cabernet franc

Cabernet Franc is one of the oldest red grape varieties in Bordeaux. The Libourne region is its terroir where it develops best. The terroirs of Saint-Emilion and Fronsac allow it to mature and develop its best range of aromas. It is also the majority in many blends. The very famous Château Cheval Blanc, for example, uses 60% Cabernet Franc. The wines produced with Cabernet Franc are medium in colour with fine tannins and subtle aromas of small red fruits and spices. When blended with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it brings complexity and a bouquet of aromas to the wine. It produces fruity wines that can be drunk quite quickly, but whose great vintages can be kept for a long time. It is an earlier grape variety than Cabernet Sauvignon, which means that it is planted as far north as the Loire Valley. In Anjou, it is also used to make sweet rosé wines. Cabernet Franc is now used in some twenty countries in Europe and throughout the world.
