The Mader Estate is an exceptional winery located in the beautiful region of Alsace, France. Nestled in the heart of the Alsatian vineyard, in the charming small town of Hunawihr, this family estate is recognized for its commitment to the vineyard and its constant quest for excellence. Founded in 1778, the estate has been passed down from generation to generation, each contributing to the development of innovative production methods while respecting the importance of traditional Alsatian wine-growing traditions. Today, it is Jérôme Mader who runs the 9-hectare estate, offering a remarkable selection of 10 different wines from high-quality terroirs. The Mader Estate is particularly known for its range of aromatic white wines, which highlight the extreme diversity of Alsatian grape varieties. Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, and Pinot Blanc are cultivated with passion and delicacy to produce wines of unimpeachable finesse and balance. The estate also produces some red wines, which, while less common in the region, are no less excellent. The vineyard is managed sustainably, respecting the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. This philosophy is reflected in the minimization of chemical inputs, the encouragement of biodiversity, and respect for natural cycles. Soil cultivation, rootstock choice, vine treatment, everything is designed to promote the natural expression of the terroir and the grape variety. Visiting the Mader Estate means discovering the wine-making history of Alsace, appreciating the beauty of its vineyard, and tasting authentic wines.

Discovering the wine region of Alsace

Alsace, located in the extreme north-east of France, is Distinguished from other French wine regions by its strong Franco-Germanic influences. These influences are the result of a back-and-forth between the German and French sovereignties over the last few centuries. They can be seen not only in the architecture and culture of Alsace, but also in the wines. Alsace wines are produced under three main appellations: Alsace and Alsace Grand Cru for still white wines (Sweet and Dry), and Crémant d'Alsace for Sparkling wines.

Almost all the wines produced in this region fall under one of these three appellations. Alsace Grand Cru wines are produced from one of the 51 privileged vineyards spread along the Length of the region. Alsace is the only French wine region to produce significant quantities of Riesling and Gewurztraminer. These two grape varieties are more commonly associated with German wines and are reminiscent of Alsace's history.
