The Smith Haut-Lafitte Castle is located in Pessac-Léognan in Gironde, France. It lies at the heart of one of the earliest classified growths for white wine in 1959: Haut-Lafitte - Les Graves. It consists of about twenty hectares spread over two appellations: Pessac-Léognan for red wine, and Graves for white wine. With a family history spanning over two centuries, the Smith Haut-Lafitte Castle is one of the oldest properties in Pessac-Léognan and one of the only ones to produce both white and red wine in the same growth area. The Castle is surrounded by pine and willow forests that house a golf course, old greenhouses, lakes, and polo fields. The 140 craftsmen working on the estate are tasked with safeguarding traditions so that the character driven by the distinctive soil remains preserved. The Smith Haut-Lafitte Castle was designed and realized by Daniel and Florence Cathiard's grandfather, Patrick d'Aleth, who was also one of the greatest winegrowers of the Pessac-Léognan and Graves appellations. The philosophy of this vineyard is to retain and enhance further the high standards and sustainable innovative methods that have always been implemented at Smith Haut-Lafitte Castle, showing respect to the vineyard workers. The Smith Haut-Lafitte Castle produces top-quality red and white wines from grapes that grow on deep, stony soils. Winemakers use organic and traditional farming methods. The red grape varieties include Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, allowing them to produce complex and robust wines. The white wines are divine blends, made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The products of the Smith Haut-Lafitte Castle are recognized worldwide for their quality and unique character.
