Located in the charming village of Cabanac-Ségognan in Vin de Pays, Château Capion delights you with its authentic wines and unique landscapes. The winemaking estate consists of an old manor, with historical architecture. This manor has been the home of the Pajin family for more than four generations. It is from this place that the wine tradition of the Château was born and has developed over the years. The Château includes a vineyard of 55 hectares, which is maintained with great passion for wine culture. The vines are exposed to the sunshine and bathed in soft light from the Mediterranean. The traditional local grape varieties that Château Capion cultivates are: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault. These are the secret to the excellent wines produced on the estate. Each year, the family offers a new vintage of their delicious wines to their customers, renowned for their balance and intense aromas. The harvest is enriched by manual work still being carried out within the vineyards, from the rows to the vines, by hand and with great attention to quality. In addition, Château Capion can boast of having a charming wine cellar where their delicious wines are vinified and aged. This cellar is equipped with the latest technologies but retains its traditional and authentic atmosphere, which greatly reflects the usual respect the family has for their vineyards. Therefore, enjoy the treasure trove and secrets of Château Capion and discover their wide range of Provençal wines.

Discovering the wine region of Vin de Pays

Vin de Pays (VDP), the French national equivalent of PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) at the European level, is a quality category of French wines, positioned between Vin de Table (VDT) and Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC). This layer of the French appellation system was initially introduced in September 1968 by the INAO, the official appellation authority. It underwent several early revisions in the 1970s, followed by substantial changes in September 2000 and again in 2009, when all existing VDT titles were automatically registered with the European Union as PGI. Producers retain the choice of using either the VDP or PGI titles on their labels, or both - in the form "IGP-Vin de Pays".

There are now more than 150 VDP/IGP titles, mainly covering the southern third of France. The "Vin de Pays" level is intended to benefit both consumers and wine producers. It allows consumers to know clearly where a wine comes from, while producers are empowered to produce wine outside the constraints of traditional AOC laws. The most obvious freedoms are the higher yields allowed and a more comprehensive list of permitted Grape varieties.

Discover the grape variety: Marsanne

Marsanne is a white grape variety that originated in Montélimar in the Drôme, several centuries ago. Marsanne is also found in Cassis, Savoie, Languedoc-Roussillon and Saint-Péray in the Ardèche, where it produces remarkable sparkling wines. The warm, sunny climate of the Rhone Valley, Languedoc-Roussillon and Provence, as well as the dry, stony soil, are ideal conditions for its development. Its bunches are quite large and provide small, juicy berries that are sensitive to grey rot and strong winds. These two grape varieties complement each other perfectly: together they give light wines with little acidity, aromas of yellow fruit, white fruit and flowers with notes of honey and liquorice. This is for example what the appellations Saint-Péray, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Côtes-du-Vallée du Rhône, Corbières, or Cassis express... which represent about 700 hectares.
