Supple, fragrant reds with fine tannins and vibrant freshness, showing raspberry, violet, green pepper, pencil lead and gentle spice aromas. Star of the Loire as a single variety (Chinon, Bourgueil, Saumur-Champigny) and of the right bank of Bordeaux in blends (Cheval Blanc at 60%). Also in semi-dry Anjou rosés. The wine region of Bolgheri Superiore

Tuscan coastal DOC (Tyrrhenian maritime microclimate, sun reflection off the sea, varied gravelly soils): Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc as signature Bordeaux-style reds (0–100% each), complemented by Syrah, Petit Verdot and Sangiovese — ripe and sweet dark fruits, balsamic Mediterranean scrub notes, tobacco and liquorice, rounded and supple palate, fresh acidity, silky and dense tannic texture, long generous finish, decade-long ageing.

The wine region of Tuscany

Kingdom of Sangiovese: upright reds with cherry, plum, dried herbs and leather, lively acidity and firm tannins. Fleshy, food-friendly Chianti Classico DOCG, deep long-ageing Brunello di Montalcino (spice, tobacco, ripe black fruit), elegant Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. On the coast, Bolgheri crafts the opulent Cabernet- and Merlot-based 'Super Tuscans'. Some fresh white Vernaccia.

The word of the wine: Rafle (taste of)

A taste considered a defect, characterized by an unpleasant astringency and bitterness, brought by the stalk during the vinification process. In order to avoid it, destemming before vinification is a common practice.
