It has its origins in Burgundy, where it is called pinot-beurot in reference to the colour of the grey robes worn by the monks of the region. Côtes de Toul is a wine of controlled origin since 1998. In 1951, a major replanting campaign was undertaken. It is produced in the area located west of Nancy and south-west on the left bank of the Moselle, in Meurthe-et-Moselle to be precise.
