Discover the grape variety: Pinot noir

Pinot noir is an important red grape variety in Burgundy and Champagne, and its reputation is well known! Great wines such as the Domaine de la Romanée Conti elaborate their wines from this famous grape variety, and make it a great variety. When properly vinified, pinot noit produces red wines of great finesse, with a wide range of aromas depending on its advancement (fruit, undergrowth, leather). it is also the only red grape variety authorized in Alsace. Pinot Noir is not easily cultivated beyond our borders, although it has enjoyed some success in Oregon, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

The wine region of Côtes de Toul

Côtes de Toul is a wine of controlled origin since 1998. In 1951, a major replanting campaign was undertaken. It is produced in the area located west of Nancy and south-west on the left bank of the Moselle, in Meurthe-et-Moselle to be precise. The Vineyard, spread over 100 hectares, benefits from a southern and south-eastern exposure resulting in ideal climatic conditions (optimal sunshine).

The wine region of Moselle

Moselle is an appellation covering white, red and rosé wines from an area in the administrative department of Moselle in Northeastern France. The Vineyard">Vineyard zone covers land on both sides of the Mosel River (known locally as the Moselle), before it flows north to form the heart of Germany's famed Mosel wine region. Moselle wines are most often light, Aromatic whites with crisp Acidity. They are made predominantly from the Auxerrois Blanc and Müller-Thurgau grape varieties.

Do growers make wine – or do markets? Growers, of course. Yet markets define the scope of the grower’s creative efforts by what they reward or sanction. When markets are neglectful and unresponsive, there’s little the grower can do but conform. It’s a problem the world over. Here’s an example. The river Moselle/Mosel rises to the wet west of the Vosges mountains, then curves in a long green arc heading north through Epinal, Metz and (along the left bank) Luxembourg’s Grand Duchy, turning east at ...

Bordeaux: Dourthe president Patrick Jestin to retire

Jestin said he has decided to retire after 35 years of helping to develop Maison Dourthe and Bordeaux in general – from exploring new vineyard management and winemaking techniques to promoting wines on the international stage. ‘Although no longer involved in the day-to-day side of the business, rest assured that I will continue to support the company as both stakeholder and trustee,’ he said. Dourthe, founded in 1840, has owned fifth growth estate Château Belgrave since 1979 but also has several ...

What to drink now… Mimosa Perfect for spring brunch, the Mimosa is a mix of equal parts Champagne and orange juice. The cocktail is attributed to Frank Meier, head bartender at the Paris Ritz, who served the first Mimosa in 1925, though the recipe appeared elsewhere in France at the same time. Either way, it’s a twist on the British Buck’s Fizz, invented in 1921 at the Buck’s Club in London, which used more Champagne and could include gin.
