Firm, upright reds with precise acidity and angular tannins, showing aromas of sour cherry, plum, dried herbs, leather, black tea and balsamic notes. Characteristically bitter, savoury finish. Star of Chianti Classico DOCG, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG and Morellino di Scansano. Italy's most planted variety, a descendant of Ciliegiolo × Calabrese di Montenuovo.

World icon of Australian Shiraz: powerful, silky, sun-drenched king red with notes of jammy blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, liquorice and a touch of sweet spice, enveloping tannins — Penfolds Grange and Henschke Hill of Grace as mythical bottles. Fleshy, spicy old-vine Grenache (up to 180 years), dense Mourvèdre, structured Cabernet as complement. Aroma reminiscent of banana, candy, and sometimes nail polish, particularly present in primeur wines. The amylic taste is reminiscent of the aromas of industrial confectionery and does not reflect a great expression of terroir.
