An ancient grape variety that has been cultivated for a long time, mainly in the Rueda region of northwestern Spain. D.N.A. tests show that it is the result of a natural cross between Savagnin and Castellana Blanco. It should not be confused with the Verdelho, which is very well known in Portugal, and the Verdelho Branco, which is almost more widespread. The Verdejo is registered in the Official Catalogue of wine grape varieties list A. The wine region of Bairrada is located in the region of Beiras of Portugal. Wineries and vineyards like the Domaine Colinas de São Lourenço or the Domaine Cantanhede produce mainly wines red, sparkling and white. The most planted grape varieties in the region of Bairrada are Baga, Touriga nacional and Chardonnay, they are then used in wines in blends or as a single variety. On the nose of Bairrada often reveals types of flavors of non oak, honeysuckle or ripe strawberries and sometimes also flavors of white pepper, oil or gooseberry.

Beiras (Beira) is a traditional administrative region in the northern half of Portugal. It is also the name of the IGP, or Indicacoes Geograficas Protegidas, wine classification (formerly known as Vinho Regional) which covers the region as a whole.
