Discover the grape variety: Riesling Italico

Lively, aromatic whites for early drinking, with a pale golden hue, light palate and fresh aromas of citrus (lemon), white flowers, white-fleshed fruits (green apple) and herbal notes. Also produced as sparkling (Spumante) and botrytised sweet wines. A pillar of dry Italian whites from Friuli, Veneto and Lombardy. The Italian synonym for Welschriesling, a Central European white grape with no genetic link to German Riesling.

The wine region of Haskovo

Major sub-region of the Thracian Valley (southern Bulgaria, foot of the eastern Rhodopes), temperate continental climate moderated by Mediterranean winds via the Sakar corridor. Merlot is the signature red (reputed Bulgaria's best from old vines): dense and deep with plum, blackberry, black cherry, cocoa and a balsamic touch, round tannins. Mavrud is a robust autochthone, Rubin (Syrah × Nebbiolo) is spicy. Firm Cabernet Sauvignon.

The word of the wine: Bordeaux futures

Bordeaux wines are expected 2 to 3 years before bottling. In the spring following the harvest, the wines are offered by the châteaux to the Bordeaux wine merchants via the brokers.
